Medical Management
Patients are initially evaluated by one of the medical providers at the Alabama Fibromyalgia Center. During this evaluation an in-depth history is obtained and a comprehensive physical exam is performed. During the examination, the tender points for Fibromyalgia are assessed. It is after both the history and exam are completed that the diagnosis for Fibromyalgia is confirmed.
A personalized plan of care is developed for each patient during the first visit. Medications are carefully selected based on the patient’s symptoms and previous treatments. Patients are monitored for progress and their treatment plan adjusted accordingly. During a “flare” of their Fibromyalgia symptoms, the medical provider may refer the patient to other providers within the clinic to better manage the complex pain of Fibromyalgia.
In addition to medication management, the medical provider will also perform testing to assess for other medical conditions that often accompany Fibromyalgia. Ongoing follow-up is essential to monitoring each patient’s progress and addressing new or recurring problems.
